Community Services: Community Development

Community Development Services exists to provide an alternative to traditional day services. We provide opportunities for people to be leaders and to receive support in their personal and professional development, which involves accountability, responsibility, and teamwork. What sets us apart is the flexibility in hours and the combination of group and one-on-one support for each person as they decide which opportunities and projects to take on. We believe that people need to make their own decisions and choose their path in a way that honours their core values, abilities, interests, and level of support at home. We value relationships, trust, communication, teamwork and respect. We believe that it’s possible to have a world in which people with disabilities are leading their own movement.

Overview

How People with Disabilities are Leading their Movement

UNITI’s Community Development Services Team has been able to support people with disabilities to be leaders. Community Development Committee members are attending meetings, public speaking, and sitting on committees as leaders in politics. They are influencing high-level decisions, winning multiple awards, pursuing post-secondary education, and holding corporate memberships with organisations such as Rotary and Resilient Women in Business. See how they are valued and respected by local MLAs, City Counsellors, and Mayors, and how they are cordially invited to participate as equals.

  • “Inclusion means more than just being invited. It means being involved with passion.”
