Supported Independent Living
People live in their own place (owned, leased, or rented) and receive support with activities of daily living from a staff who visits them.
Overview
When people with a developmental disability access independent living support, they live without a paid caregiver in a home in their community that they own, lease, or rent, and get some support with daily living.
Supported Independent Living is an inclusive housing support model provided by UNITI to assist tenants with developmental disabilities in living a life of their choosing on their terms within their own homes. Using Person-centred Thinking Philosophy, the tenants work with the support team to figure out what “Just Enough” support looks like for everyone.
Using life skills sessions, we provide support as customised and unique as the person needs. This may include meal planning, grocery shopping, budgeting, emotional and relationship support, nurturing natural networks and connections with the person’s community, week planning, and other things people who live on their own do ordinarily.
